Our Story
In 2013 Obakeng started a journey of grabbing coffee with mentors and intentionally asking them questions & sharing his thoughts as a 22 year old. The goal was to find out,‘‘knowing what you know now, what would they have done differently as a 22 year old?’’ The common response was on two things: self-awareness and travel. The intentionality of getting to know himself better to add value in his life and people around him. Deliberately expanding his world through traveling the world and seeing other people’s worlds.
Five years later, in 2018, Afrika Dumela, the travel business, was born. Dumela means hello in the Setswana language which is also spoken by Obakeng’s tribe present in South Africa and Botswana. The first curated tour was in the City of Gaborone (Botswana). A group of young professionals which he met (and still in touch with) at Wits University in Johannesburg. He also curated tours in South Africa, Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda and again in Botswana. Obakeng is celebrating 6 years showcasing Africa and 11 years of expanding his world through travel.
